The Wonders of His Love

“For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
Isaiah 9: 6, NLT
Isn’t it amazing how God shared the news of Jesus’ birth with the prophets hundreds of years before He was born?
These same words of hope light our way to the first Christmas assuring us, “that time of darkness and despair will not go on forever” (Isaiah 9: 1).
Today’s anchor verse is one of my favorites and brings us back to Bethlehem. “For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:1,6).
Each unique title brings rest to our souls. As children of King Jesus, when trouble strikes, our Wonderful Counselor is on call. God’s Promise tells us to, “Seek the kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need” (Matthew 6: 33).
No longer pretending nothing is wrong, no longer scrolling for answers, or asking others for quick advice, we hand over our circumstances to our Savior and Wonderful Counselor. In this context the word, wonderful implies a miraculous outcome, unexpected profound results, much better than what you and I would ever expect.
Through the power of reflection you and I seek Jesus in our time of need, and discover the Wonderful Counselor, to be also the paradigm for how to listen, advise, and love others well. Never needing to have all the answers, we point others to the One who knows best; each time walking away receiving peace of mind and heart.
When we seek the Holy Spirit through our Mighty God, we can trust his Presence to penetrate and strengthen our hearts. He brings hope and encouragement leading David and you and I to say, “I will bless the Lord who guides me; even at night my heart instructs me. I know the Lord is always with me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me” (Psalm 16:7-8).
When we call on our Everlasting Father, his righteous care reigns forever. “Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth” (Colossians 1: 15-16).
At the same time, we may pause before Jesus, the Prince of Peace. Ruling by love, providing everything we could possibly need, his invitation reads, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest for your souls.” (Matthew 11: 28).
Let’s pray.
Loving God,
We praise you and thank you for the gift of your Son, Jesus. Both fully human and divine, your Light and Love were born anew on that first Christmas night. Create in us a thirst to dwell in the warmth of your holy Presence, to see you in each moment, and to surrender our lives to you. Counsel us to seek your Wisdom, experience your peace, and to carry out the unique work you have for each of us. This year may we rejoice at the birth of our newborn King with fresh eyes, and be transformed by the wonders of your love. In gratitude and in Jesus’ name we pray.
Amen.
♥️Thank you, sweet friend, for your loving presence in our community. May the miracle of Christmas fill you with great joy, peace, and God’s unfailing love.
Until next time…
May the Spirit of God lead you,
the Word of God sustain you,
and the promises of God grant you the gift of everlasting peace.
With love, prayers and Christmas blessings.
