The Most Important Thing to Remember

If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God,

God lives in them and they in God.

1 John 4:15

This time of year I enjoy covering myself in a quilt, and cozying up by the fire to read a heartwarming Christmas story or two.

Sometimes, when I close the book, it’s almost as though I’m transported back to similar events from years gone by.

Tonight awakened a cherished memory from decades ago. I could still capture the energy, and hear the giggles, as my kindergarten students, at St. Joseph School, prepared to sing their best loved Christmas songs.

We had just acted out “Away in a Manger,” and as the parents beamed in applause, and crouched to snap pictures alongside the stage, a wrapped present appeared.

Immediately the students' eyes lit up, and each child opened their little palms anticipating their turn to pass the package to their eager neighbor.

Over the past few weeks, practicing this next song had been the highlight of each day. Now as their young voices rang out, with cues from myself and the music instructor, their enthusiasm was contagious.

Singing the chorus to Sandi Patty’s hit, “The Gift Goes On,” the entire audience was engaged.

Hearing, “The Father gave the Son, the Son gave the Spirit, the Spirit gives us life, so we can give the gift of Love,” this universal Biblical Truth, delivered by God’s little ones, stirred my soul.

The song’s eloquent message describing the core essence of my faith sent chills down my spine.

Soaking up the Word of God like a sponge, in class and now passing the wrapped box with great care, their sweet innocence modeled the reason for the season.

It made me think how important it is to give from the heart, and how desperate our broken world is for answers that only God can give.

The Creator of the Universe did what He needed to do. God Almighty sent Jesus, both human and divine, and in turn you and I received the power of the Holy Spirit to comfort, and guide our lives.

The psalmist, David, has written, “I will instruct you, and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you” (Psalm 32:8).

Go. Unwrap the gift of prayer.

Glorify God, Intensify your Faith, and see how Trusting the Father will change your life.

Until next time…

May the Spirit of God lead you, the Word of God sustain you, and the promises of God grant you the gift of everlasting peace.

Love and blessings.
