The Calling

“For through the law I died to the law so that I might live for God. I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained

through the law, Christ died for nothing!”

Galatians 2: 19-21

An unexpected a-ha moment transformed my life. I will never forget sitting in the front row at church, something I rarely do, and having eye contact with the presider. Soon afterwards, I heard a familiar song that elicited a response deep within my soul.

At the time, I was a busy young mom, new to this church, but had an inner yearning for spiritual growth and desperately wanted to belong. The hymn about discipleship, which I had heard numerous times before, penetrated through my heart. I knew that the time had come to put it out there to Jesus and accept His call to go wherever He was leading me.

The lyrics were based upon Isaiah’s Commission and became my summons, too.

Isaiah 6: 8 reads: “Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?’”

And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”

I was ready to follow Jesus wherever He was taking me. This pivotal point in my faith allowed me to test my wings and soar over a new horizon. I let go of my own insecurities and trusted my intuition that I was heading in the right direction. I became fully engaged as I took a deep dive into Scripture. I felt like a young child, over the moon about a surprise gift that had waited forever to unwrap.

I firmly believed that Jesus would bless my childlike faith. In God’s Word, we see Jesus on His way to Jerusalem to take up His cross but stopping to bless the children before him. When the disciples saw this, they rebuked them.

But Jesus called the children to him and said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it” (Luke 18: 16-17).

Jesus wants all His followers, young and old, to come to Him with a sincere and impressionable spirit. As an adult, I am lifted by our own childlike sense of wonder. All I needed to do was to trust and obey. I was ready to grab hold of my intention to walk into the unknown.

In the beginning, I could only take baby steps. Even now, there are times when I won’t let go of the Master’s hand. He is always there to help me up when I fall. To this day, lifting my eyes unto the Lord continues to be the best decision I ever made. I know there is no looking back. Moving ahead with intention and positive, faith-filled thinking has brought life-changing results.

It can for you, too.

Come now, my sister. Let’s pray.

Amazing Lord,

Thank you for opening my heart to release the power of your Spirit. With faith-filled possibility thinking, your grace and mercy allows me to step over the boulders that have blocked my path. Here I am, Lord, in both large and small ways, I accept your call to be an ambassador of faith (2 Corinthians 5: 20).

As I reach out to others, you give me the confidence to use my unique gifts and talents in meaningful ways. I have the willingness to serve you. For you are the Potter, I am the clay. Thank you for molding me into the person I am called to be.

Amen.

Thank you my beautiful friend for being here.

Until next time…

May the Spirit of God lead you,

the Word of God sustain you,

and the promises of God grant you the gift of everlasting peace.

With love and blessings.
