For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29: 11
Just like that. At the stroke of midnight last week we walked into a new year. By now the last of the Christmas cookies have been eaten, decorations have been taken down, and many of us are plowing through the snow onto the next right thing.
But what is the next right thing? What will make this calendar year different?
It’s been said that if we keep doing the same thing over and over again we will get the same results. In some cases that works just fine, but what if this time you, and I shake it up a bit?
Come on. You’ve thought about it. Let’s just do it!
Whether it’s losing weight, sticking to daily exercise or bolstering up the courage to address difficult situations, you and I often procrastinate, and talk ourselves out of it before we even begin.
It doesn’t have to be that way.
Having just celebrated the birth of Jesus, you and I were reminded that we worship an Almighty and Omniscient God whose amazing love has no beginning and no end.
I get it. Sometimes it’s easier to give in, than opt out. As women we tend to put our personal needs and soul care last. There was a time, I did that, too. But after learning the hard way, I discovered something.
When worldly demands steer me off course, I need to turn to God.
Jesus’ brother, James, reminds us, “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and He will come near to you” ( 4:7- 8).
Yielding to the Author of My Life directs my path.
Strengthened in his all powerful presence I sit.
I rest in silence.
I share and dismiss earthly distractions, and any false gods that try to steer me away from where I need to be.
I remember Paul’s antidote for worry, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God” (Phillippians 4:6).
I ask for forgiveness, and recommit myself to submit and follow the Light.
I see how God makes all things new.
Inviting God into everyday decision making changes everything.
Once you try this, there's no going back.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29: 11).
Life is not easy, but together we can inspire one another and continually be guided by God’s promises, and strengthened as we walk through our days with Jesus.
I wish you abundant love, renewed hope, and peace as we journey together into the year ahead.
