Illuminate Your Path

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously,

and he will give you everything you need.

Matthew 6: 34 NLT

Have you ever anticipated a much needed break so much that you could sense the energy and buzz of excitement in the air?

Finally, after crossing off the weeks on the calendar, my day of departure was in sight. I checked and double-checked my packing list, and hummed a little tune as I began to lay aside the essentials.

However, all too soon I was given a reality check when my eyes caught a glimpse of the piles on the bed. My whole body froze. How on earth would I cram all these “necessary” clothes into my suitcase, and not exceed the weight limit? Filled with dread and anxiety, I had no idea how I would manage to dress for the changing weather over the course of a few weeks, and get by with just one pair of waterproof shoes without my winter coat?

Truth be told, I was having a pity party for myself, and felt like canceling the whole thing. Ever been there, my friend?

Walking out of the room to take a much needed “pause,” I was reminded of Jesus’ Words when he sent his disciples out to share about God’s Kingdom.

“Take nothing for your journey–don’t take a walking stick, a traveler’s bag, food, money, or even a change of clothes” (Luke 9: 3).

Knowing the disciples had gotten along just fine, depending on God to meet their needs (Luke 22:35), I immediately began to feel silly.

Letting go of my worries to weather the biting winds, and every real or imagined storm by cluttering my suitcase, and filling my head with unsettling thoughts, I received a much needed reminder.

All I ever need to bring anywhere are the bare essentials. Jesus would take care of the rest.

For Jesus said, “why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you” (Matthew 6: 28, 30).

In God’s presence, He takes our bundles and burdens to lighten our load.

Letting go of the “what ifs,” the fears, concerns and false worldly beliefs, that you and I are in control, enables us to seek the Light of Christ.

As He begins to illuminate your path, you can discern what matters most, and begin to rely upon God’s power and not your own.

No longer attempting to pack everything into one suitcase, or to pack everything into one day remember to, “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need” (Matthew 6: 33).

Come now my sister, it’s time you and I stop relying on our own strength, and in sweet surrender, trust in the unlimited provision of our faithful God.

When you take the Word of God with you, wherever you go, you’ve got it all.

With love and blessings...
