How to Capture God’s Blessings

This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.
Psalm 118:24
What would it look like if you and I decided to wrap each day in gratitude?
Much more than a handful of holidays celebrated throughout the year, scripture highlights giving thanks as a way of life. In fact, Paul instructs, “Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught and you will overflow with thankfulness” (Colossians 2:7).
Letting the word of Christ dwell in you richly, (Colossians 3:15-17) captures God’s blessings.
Years ago, my husband and I had a pastor who began each sermon declaring, “This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it” (Psalm 118:24).
And you know something? Owning this verse works! Reciting these words each morning helps set the tone for my day.
Now you may be thinking, “Oh, no. Not now. You have no idea what I am going through.”
And of course, that’s true, but David in the psalms, and Christ himself on Calvary, looked to God and praised Him in difficult times, demonstrating their trust in Him above all circumstances.
It’s during trials, that focusing on God’s goodness and powerful Presence can matter most.
Today’s verse inspires us to see every day as a gift, prompting praise and a joyful attitude. This verse also points to the triumphant entry into Jerusalem where the disciples in the crowd sang, “Hosanna, blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord” (Psalm 118:25-26)
These words celebrate Christ’s salvation and resurrection, his victory over sin and death-all done for you and for me.
God is encouraging us to look ahead, to show Him our mountain, and to wait and see what only God can do.
In anticipation, you and I can look with our hearts to view the awesomeness of each sunrise and the unsurpassed beauty of nature right in our own backyards. We can tune in to those around us, embark on adventures to live more in the moment, and appreciate each day as if it were our last (Nourish Your Soul: 7 Secrets for Women Seeking Peace p.23)
Even though life may be fragile at times, becoming more aware of our blessings helps us discover gratitude even in the midst of challenges.
Through hardship we fix our eyes on Jesus, and know even though we may endure trials for a little while, these trials will bring joy (1Peter 1:6-7).
Let’s pray.
Extraordinary Savior,
Your beauty is all around me. Thank you for the reminders of your abundant love. Your creative masterpieces in nature help me remember the all-encompassing power of your hands. Help me to recall and always be grateful for the firsthand miracles, both big and small, witnessed in my life. For I know they are reminders to me of the people you have placed in my path and the angels that surround us all. With each heart-to-heart conversation together, I walk closer to you praising You, Jesus, with gratitude, peace and confidence for each day ahead.
Amen.
I am most grateful for your loving presence, my friend.
May your heart overflow with gratitude for all God’s done for you!
Until next time…
May the Spirit of God lead you,
The Word of God sustain you,
And the promises of God grant you the gift of everlasting peace.
Have a blessed and beautiful day!
With love and blessings.
