Handpicked by God

The Lord your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of this earth, to be his people, his treasured possession. Deuteronomy 7:6 (NIV)

Is it just me, or have you, too, ever caught yourself dwelling on a disappointing event in your life?

One particular flashback brought up the distant memory of an awkward young girl standing idly on the sidelines, being chosen last for gym class. Again.

No matter how old we are, the sting of rejection hurts.

As adults you and I sometimes feel defeated before we even begin.

It seems as though even the most successful Christian woman among us has experienced this type of grief, confusion, or despair at one time or another. Whether it’s a simple misunderstanding with a dear friend, an interview that didn’t pan out, an employer’s misperception, or a courageous step into the unknown, that wasn’t the adventure we had hoped for afterall, you and I are often left scratching our heads.

The emotional pain of being let down, and not valued hurts.

It’s situations like these that make you and I feel not quite good enough. But that is simply not true.

You and I are handpicked by God.

The Good News of Jesus beckons, “Come to me, all who are burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11: 28).

When you and I remember to hit the pause button, and take time to refresh, and shift our thinking in the arms of the loving Father, we can begin to see with our hearts.

It is then that we hear the Almighty whisper, “For you are a people holy to the Lord your God. The Lord your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be his people, his treasured possession” (Deuteronomy 7: 6).

Just as God kept his promise and chose the Israelites above all the other nations, you and I as believers are chosen, and saved by his goodness and grace, too.

As God’s most prized possessions, we can rest assured that as you and I seek, glorify God, and unite with him in prayer, that when we experience a setback, our Almighty Father has had an even better comeback selected for us all along.

Paul in his promise to the Romans 8: 28 reminds us, “We know that God works all things together for the good of those who love him.”

You see, Jesus has called you and I by name. You and I are not only chosen, but given the awesome responsibility to be the hands and feet of Jesus for one another.

Jesus states, “You did not choose me, I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit-fruit that will last-and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you” (John 15: 16 NIV).

You and I are called to discipleship.

Each one of us has been given an equal opportunity as daughters of the Most High King.

There is no comparison between the sting of rejection and God’s selection.

My dear friend, you and I always have a seat at God’s table.

The importance of nourishing our soul, pulls us away from what no longer serves us, and plummets us forward to make intentional decisions in the Light of Christ. It is then that you and I are equipped to share God’s Truth with others.

Jesus lived and died for you and I. Together, we are invited to walk with him in this life, and in the life beyond. Both human and divine, Jesus recognizes the struggles you and I endure. He urges you and I to not have the problems that surround us, injure us, but to go out and love anyway.

Chosen, not forsaken, as children of God our lives are transformed.

Continuing along this journey, let’s joyfully refresh and renew our minds. Live informed by God’s Word. Trust in his providence. Breathe in the gift of the moment, and nourish our souls.

Rejoicing, skipping, and knowing that we are never alone, may we scatter seeds of compassion, gentleness, and acceptance and “set our hearts on things above, where Christ is,” (Colossians 3:2) which will make all the difference.

Until next time…

May the Spirit of God lead you, the Word of God sustain you, and the promises of God grant you the gift of everlasting peace.

Love and blessings.
